Second Release Wins a 2012 Game of the Year Award and Original Game goes Digital.

There’s no question that busy Americans are seeking fast-action game play alternatives when they have a few precious moments to spend with family or friends. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, in 2010 the average time people (ages 15 and up) spent playing board games for leisure was less than a half hour a day. Games that are easy to set up and don’t take long to play are clearly preferred by game players of all kinds.

Dice games deliver the action and speed that game players need, and Cleveland, Ohio-based game maker Heartland Consumer Products, LLC, has the solutions. The company launched the Square Shooters® dice game in 2011, earning three awards and national retail placement in more than 15,000 stores. The game has already sold more than 150,000 copies in its first 12 months.

“Square Shooters® is off to a strong start because it could be the most overdue game invention of all time,” says Tom Donelan, Heartland’s CEO. “It’s cards on dice. The two things have 7 centuries of legacy together, and when people see them combined in our game they feel a deep sense of familiarity.” The 9 Square Shooters® dice contain a full deck of 54 playing cards, arranged in special manner that allows players to achieve combinations for the most popular card games, including rummy, 21, and poker.

Heartland is now delivering a few encores to its 2011 debut:

  • Rodeo RummyTM, Heartland’s second title (http://www.squareshooters.com/rodeo-rummy.html), is designed especially for busy families. You just spin, roll and win. Introduced in July 2012, the game has already earned two national awards: 2012 Game of the Year honors from Creative Child Magazine and a Tillywig Best Family Fun Award.
  • The Square Shooters® iPhone App is launching this fall, and the company is already recruiting fans for beta testing at http://www.squareshooters.com/mobilegames.html.
