New York, NY (PRWEB) August 16, 2012
As reported by DNAinfo.com on August 10, 2012, “An awning collapse in East New York left one man injured on Friday morning, according to the FDNY. Emergency responders arrived on scene at 625 Sutter Ave., between Pennsylvania and Sheffield avenues, and found the man unconscious at 9:10 a.m., a fire department spokesman said.”
“The Buildings Department was called to check on the loose facade early Friday morning, which was in danger of collapsing, a department spokeswoman said. The building's owner was issued a violation for failing to maintain the building, and workers removed the loose facade, the spokeswoman said.”
“According to witnesses at the scene, the man was standing on a ladder working on the facade when it broke and fell into the ladder, causing the fall. Witnesses said the incident did not look serious, but the FDNY spokesman said emergency responders rushed the man to SUNY Downstate Medical Center with major trauma. His condition was not known,” all as reported by DNAinfo.coa
Failure to maintain a safe construction site can cause construction workers serious injuries, especially those workers who work at heights. New York construction and personal injury lawyer, Lawrence Saftler has handled many cases such as this a site is in the process of being repaired or worked on. Lawrence Saftler said " Workers on ladders and scaffolds have the ultimate protections guaranteed under the law for their personal safety. It is important for the worker to know that he is protected by the law and an injury that comes his way will be compensated for by those whose responsibility it is to maintain safety at the worksite. Further, the worksite must be guarded and shored against natural elements such as a windy condition, rainfall or stormy weather. Nature doesn't give responsible parties a free pass since the law requires that loose items and the site itself must be shored to protect from flying projectiles or falling objects”
