According to court documents, on July 17, 2012 a Haitian national and former pupil of a school for disadvantaged youth in Cap-Haitien, Haiti , M.M., filed a lawsuit in Connecticut District Court (case no. 3:2012cv01043) alleging he was repeatedly assaulted by Douglas Perlitz, beginning when he was 14. Douglas Perlitz is the former director of Project Pierre Toussaint in Cap-Haitien. Plaintiff claims that Reverend Paul E. Carrier, Fairfield University and other defendants are responsible because they did nothing to prevent the school’s former director from molesting him.
Every year 3.3 million reports of child abuse are made in the United States involving 6 million children; 9.2% of child abuse concerns sexual abuse. More than 90% of juvenile sexual abuse victims know their perpetrator in some way (ChildHelp.org).
