“Several years ago, while living in New York City, I heard a guide in the Conservatory Gardens describe ‘the bones of the garden’ as the basic structure which creates an outline upon which the rest of the garden is built,” explains author and poet Jane Cocke Perdue. Inspired by these words, she thought to herself, “What a title for a collection of poems written about the basics of one’s life!” Now, Perdue pens her new book of poetry, “Bones of My Garden” (published by AuthorHouse).

Perdue’s poems are reflections based on the many themes of life as everyone experiences it, from birth to death, and all the good, the bad, and the ugly in between.

An excerpt from the poem entitled, “Joy”:

Joy is movement shaking
From the very bones
Of newborn and dying
Who recognize a reason
To disturb the stillness.

Joy infuses disappointments
With hopeful dreams,
Sending party invitations
For no commemoration
Except being alive!

“I would love for my readers to have what Anna Quindlin describes as the poetic experience: ‘the heart coming around the corner and unexpectedly running into the mind.’”
