Congressman Paul Ryan is making news for his trim, muscular physique reportedly honed by a fitness regimen called P90X.

Shannon Austin, owner and personal training coach at Mota Fitness (http://www.motafitness.com) in Portland, Ore., says she is supportive of almost any program that motivates people to be active. However, since people are all different, she believes individualized exercise programs make more sense than those being sold as a successful formula.

“There are quite a few fads in this business that enjoy temporary glory and then fade away. Nothing takes the place of smart, sensible exercise that offers variety and does not lead members to burn out or get injured and then quit,” Austin said.

Mota Fitness also offers a variety of total body workouts, but each Mota member has a routine that is appropriate and safe—and not boring. For example, newcomers of all ages and sizes start out with stretching, agility, balance and strength-building that matches their needs and abilities.
