People love coming to Saratoga Springs every August because of the region’s scenic beauty and local charm as much as for the love of horse racing.
SARATOGA SPRINGS, New York (PRWEB) August 18, 2012
The Saratoga Race Track is in full gear, and the venue will host the 17th annual Travers Stakes Festival August 18-26. The festival will offer nine days of special events and activities, culminating in the Travers Stakes, an American Grade I Thoroughbred horse race and Saratoga Race Track tradition since 1864. Visitors attending the Travers Stakes Festival are booking vacation rentals in Saratoga Springs through NYVacationRentals.com for their accommodations.
The field for the Travers Stakes is limited to three-year-olds, colts and geldings carrying 126 pounds and fillies carrying 123 pounds. Since 1999 the purse has been $1 million. The race is the highlight of the summer race meeting at Saratoga Race Track.
In the days leading up to the Travers Stakes, the race track will host a variety of festival events including the Stewart's Shops annual Ice Cream Eating Contest (Wednesday, August 22); the 14th annual Ronald McDonald House Fashion Show (Thursday, August 23); the 12th annual Travers Celebration (Thursday, August 23); the Battle of the Brews to benefit the American Red Cross (Friday, August 24); and the third annual Travers Eve party in downtown Saratoga Springs (Friday, August 24).
The festival will also include the return of the third annual Travers 1864 Restaurant Week, which celebrates the year of the inaugural running of the Travers Stakes. From Sunday, August 19 through Thursday, August 23, restaurants throughout the greater Capital Region will offer a three-course meal for the fixed cost of $18.64.
As part of the festival, the Saratoga Race track will host the 14th Annual Travers Wine Tasting on August 25 to benefit Senior Services of Albany's 'Meals on Wheels' program and other senior-related services. Guests can sample more than 200 upscale wines and craft beers from around the world, all complimented by gourmet delights from the Capital Region's finest restaurants.
Set in the beautiful vistas of the Berkshires to the North and the Catskills to the south, it is a favorite year-round vacation destination with a variety of Saratoga Springs vacation accommodations to choose from. Visitors return each year for horse race season, and many prefer staying in a private vacation rental near the Saratoga racetrack, bypassing overpriced hotels and enjoying added amenities that vacation rentals offer.
Liz Ernst of NYVacationRentals.com says that August is high season at the track, and more Saratoga Springs vacation rental properties are being listed as travelers head here in droves for their summer vacations.
“Travelers appreciate the privacy that a vacation home rental offers, and the home-away-from-home perks of a full kitchen and laundry room makes their time here much more comfortable that a hotel stay can offer,” Ernst says.
Families traveling with children, or groups traveling together and sharing space find that a home setting with private bedrooms makes for a comfortable and enjoyable vacation.
“People love coming to Saratoga Springs every August because of the region’s scenic beauty and local charm as much as for the love of horse racing,” Ernst says. “So many people have been renting private vacation properties for short visits here and in places all across New York State and other areas for years; it’s a trend that never loses its appeal.
