“There is no other machine in the world that operates on a 200w laser and is able to do what this machine does."
(PRWEB UK) 16 August 2012
A new machine has been created by state-of-the-art cutting technology company Blackman and White enabling sailcloth to be cut in any and every way.
The Genesis dual-gantry cutting machine is unique and the only one of its kind in existence and it is set to revolutionise the sail making industry.
Alex White, Managing Director of Blackman and White, says, “There is no other machine in the world that operates on a 200w laser and is able to do what this machine does. We worked with Contender UK to provide a 16m x 2m flat bed vacuum cutting table specifically designed to Contender UK’s precise needs, along with a 200w laser, oscillating blade and driven ‘pizza’ wheel, to provide maximum versatility and ensure that the widest possible range of fabrics can be handled with ease. The Genesis dual-gantry cutting machine enables the very best in accuracy and speed for cutting their chosen materials through a combination of advanced cutting tools and the latest software to facilitate the process from digitised design to precision cutting. It really is unique.”
The machine was commissioned by Contender UK, part of the Contender Worldwide Sailgroup, a worldwide organisation devoted to supplying sail makers with the best available fabrics for all their sail making requirements. The success of the dual-gantry cutting machine has led to the launch of a new service, Contender C360, an innovative automated textile cutting service, unrivalled anywhere in the world.
Owner of Contender UK, Alastair Shires says, “We provide the very best products and services to support sail manufacturing in the UK. We have invested over £500,000 in this market-leading cutting machine, and as a consequence can now extend the service we offer by providing innovative fabrics precision cut to our customers’ individual requirements.”
“Our one stop shop service allows our customers to expand and streamline their own manufacturing processes, enabling them to be more efficient and therefore more competitive in a worldwide market,” he added.
Blackman and White have a history of developing state of the art cutting and finishing solutions to the engineering, manufacturing and printing industries. For example, they worked closely with Beagle Technology Group (BTG) to develop the Genesis Inkjet Hybrid Cutter, which automates the cutting of sizeable amounts and multiple shapes of composite material quickly, efficiently and consistently to create a repeatable and reproducible product. This enabled the building of the Foxhound Protected Patrol Vehicle that will soon be in service with the British Army.
Aviation engineering company, Aviation Enterprises Ltd (AEL) which has traditionally specialised in the design and manufacture of high performance structures using carbon fibre and GRP composites, was looking for a way to update and streamline its manufacturing process. They turned to Blackman and White who helped them to automate their cuttings with an Orion machine which was, like every machine Blackman and White sells, specially adapted to meet AEL’s particular needs. It is this tailor-made approach that makes BW stand out in the cutting machine sector.
Blackman and White was also the experts on hand to assist when Dutch bespoke marquee and heavy duty tent manufacturers, Camp Weerter Zeilmakerij (CWZ), decided to take its cutting function in-house. Their dilemma of cutting complex shapes, within a confined space in their factory was solved by the Genesis 2300 cutter from Blackman and White.
Meeting the strict requirements for space saving, versatility, value for money and after sales support, a two-man team from Blackman and White travelled to Holland to install the machine and offer CWZ Managing Director Patrick Camp a week’s training. It is this technical and service back up that makes BW stand out from the crowd.
Blackman & White has a well-earned reputation as a high quality provider of bespoke cutting systems tailored to meet more exacting finishing challenges. Supplying internationally to both SMEs and large corporations, Blackman & White takes pride in treating each customer as an individual, ensuring they select the optimal cutting solution.
