Wolf Pools and Spas, Southeastern Wisconsin’s premier spa and above-ground pool dealer has published a stress reduction guide. A recent study in the Journal of Applied Social Psychology found that U.S. stress levels have actually increased 18-24% since 1984. “With pressure at work, school or from friends and family, many of us feel tremendous tension and anxiety every day,” said Michael Wolf, owner of Wolf Pools and Spas. “If people are looking for solutions, here are three easy ways to lower stress levels that are sure to leave people feeling better fast,” continued Wolf.
Soak Away the Tension in a Hot Tub - Nothing is more relaxing and soothing than a warm, bubbly hot tub. And for relieving aches and pains from tension and stress, the massaging jets of a hot tub simply can’t be beat. When lower back pain or tension headaches leave you helpless, step into the water and feel the pressure slip away instantly. Hot tub hydrotherapy has been used for centuries to relieve aches and pains and clear the mind, leaving soakers refreshed, rejuvenated and more prepared to face what lies ahead. Make a dip in the hot tub part of an evening routine after dinner and prepare the body and mind for a deep, restful sleep. With adequate rest, stress is more easily controlled and most people will be happier and more productive.
Exercise - Believe it or not, one of the most effective ways to lower stress levels and feel better both physically and mentally is with light exercise. It may sound strange, but the process of stressing actually requires a good deal of energy. When people re-focus that energy on working their muscles through exercise, there is little left for stress. Even for those people that have never exercised a day in their life, getting off the couch or up out of the chair and moving will help them feel better. Take a short walk around the block or speed walk through the mall. The point is to move around and refocus energy.
Breathing Exercises - For immediate relief from short term stress or anxiety, breathing exercises can help people focus. When the body experiences stress, one of the first reactions is for the heart rate to increase, creating that flushed, uncomfortable feeling. When people feel stress beginning to cause nervousness, stop and breathe. Take a long, deep breath in through your mouth and hold for a count of three, then exhale through slowly, concentrating on letting go of all the nervous energy and tension. Repeat this technique two or three times until you start feeling more relaxed. Remember, stress is often made worse by thinking about it. If people concentrate on breathing deeply and relaxing, chances are they will be able to control their stress.
“To help educate the public on how hot tubs and hot water hydrotherapy can help ease improve your life, Wolf Pools and Spas will provide free hot tub test soaks during the entire month,” commented Wolf. “We want to encourage local residents to check out the benefits of a relaxing soak in an energy efficient hot tub for themselves.”
