Don Clark of Williams Mullen, 2012 "Leaders in the Law" Recipient

Williams Mullen is pleased to announce that attorney and partner Don Clark has been named one of Virginia’s “Leaders in the Law” for 2012.

A noted litigator, Mr. Clark co-founded a law firm in 1972 that later became Clark & Stant, which he directed to become one of the largest law firms in southeastern Virginia. In 1999, he led the firm’s merger with Williams Mullen, making the combined firm the third largest in Virginia.

“It has been a pleasure to practice for many years with Don," said Williams Mullen President and CEO, Thomas R. Frantz. "He is a strong leader who always leads by example. He is a great mentor and advisor to me and many others, and I can think of no better example of a true ‘Leader in the Law’ for this – or any other – year.”

Always the citizen lawyer, Mr. Clark serves on the board of trustees of the Virginia Health Care Foundation. He was a member of the board of directors of Sentara Health Care from 1998 to 2011 and recently served as chairman of the board. He is a member of the board of directors of Bay Primex Insurance Company, Ltd., and is a former member of the board of directors of Priority Health Care HMO. A former president of the Virginia Beach Bar Association, he has served as chairman of the board of directors of Virginia Beach General Hospital and as chairman of the board of directors and a member of the executive committee of Tidewater Health Care, Inc., the parent company of Virginia Beach General Hospital and other healthcare entities. He has also served as chairman of the Mayor’s Committee for Reapportionment of the City of Virginia Beach. Mr. Clark is a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers.
He is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy and the George Washington University School of Law.

Sponsored by Virginia Lawyers Weekly, recipients of the “Leaders in the Law” honor are determined based on outstanding contributions to the practice of law in Virginia, significant achievements through the practice of law, leadership in improving the justice system and important contributions to Virginia’s legal community and/or the community at large. Recipients can only receive the recognition one time.

Mr. Clark and the other “Leaders in the Law” recipients will be honored at an awards ceremony in Richmond on October 25.
