Cruise Travel Outlet of Salem, New Hampshire truly understands the importance of giving back to the community. The local travel agency has partnered with Granite United Way, located in Concord, New Hampshire, whose mission is to improve lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities around the world to advance the common good. Granite United Way is the result of a 2010/2011 merger between Heritage United Way, United Way of Merrimack County, Upper Valley United Way, North Country United Way and United Way of Northern New Hampshire and serves over half a million residents in New Hampshire and Vermont and covers nearly 40% of the state’s geography. Last year, Granite United Way came up approximately 200,000 dollars short of their forecasted support goal, forcing the organization to cut funding on important programs statewide. This year, Cruise Travel Outlet has donated a Boston-to-Bermuda cruise to United Way’s “giving incentive package” in hopes to raise local awareness and support for United Way. Through this package, employees at hundreds of companies across the state can chose to give $1, $2 or $3 out of their weekly paycheck to the Granite United Way. Only employees that chose to give $3 a week are eligible to enter to win the free cruise for two.

The philanthropic organization supports programs such as: Adolescent Substance Abuse Treatment run by Child and Family Services of New Hampshire, One-to-One Youth Mentoring by the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Nashua & Salem and the Saturday Teen Night Program run by The Salvation Army. All Granite United Way funding is allocated by a panel of citizen volunteers, eliminating politics and ensuring equality.

Cruise Travel Outlet has donated a free cruise to Granite United Way’s incentive package for the past three years, but is taking a more active role in the fundraising process this year. Julie Walsh and Laura Tentas, of Cruise Travel Outlet’s Marketing Team, recently attended the Campaign Coordinator Lunch and Training Session, where they met with the Campaign Coordinators, discussed fundraising techniques and listened to moving stories of Granite United Way’s heartfelt effect on the local communities. “You forget that there is a huge price tag attached to improving the lives of thousands of people across the state of New Hampshire.” Says Tentas. “After this meeting I found myself thinking of other ways to raise money to help keep these amazing programs afloat.” Echoes Walsh.

Cruise Travel Outlet has directing its marketing efforts towards this cruise giveaway incentive in hopes to encourage more people to donate. “As a local business owner, our community is very important to me, it’s all about giving back and United Way is a wonderful way to do so.” Says Bill Walsh, Cruise Travel Outlet’s President and CEO. “Anything helps,” Walsh adds. “It’s as easy as giving up one cup of coffee a week and putting that money towards United Way instead.” As a company, Cruise Travel Outlet is extremely inspired by Granite United Way and all they do for the community.

The free cruise giveaway sails September or October of 2013. The winner will be announced in March 2013 at the Granite United Way Campaign Celebration. If you are interested in donating or wish to commit to a Workplace Campaign please contact Maria Gudinas, Vice President of Resource Development at 603-625-6939 ext. 121.
