Bob Sharpe and Bobbi Lynn Zaccardi’s The Dark Land starts on the year of Our Lord 1920, near the bustling city of Colorado Springs. Jack Maldaner believed he had left his old life far behind him. For over a decade he and wife Beth raised their family in seclusion on a hardscrabble farm far from the troubles of the past.

Soon an unexpected turn of events would lead Jack and his family down the road of atonement. The journey to The Dark Land was a road he hoped his son would forever avoid. Fate had different plans however, and the boy finds himself tangled in a web of revenge and redemption. He soon learns past are never washed away.

Without warning Jack Maldaner, a man with a deeply ingrained sense of conscience and honor, is shot with his wife in a restaurant. His son, no longer an innocent boy, seeks revenge and follows the twists and turns of the past to seek the truth. It is now up to him and his strength of spirit to stand up to the terrors and dangers of a world dominated by mafia brutality.

The Dark Land slow burns its way across the reader’s consciousness, setting the stage that the authors have so carefully built into a human drama of truth, faith, and redemption on the harsh landscape of fate. It is a story reminiscent of Faulkner’s human expressionist novels and Crane’s immortal works of men struggling against the fall of doom awaiting the luckless sinners of this world.
