The amount of active recruiting at conferences and industry forums has increased dramatically.

The demand for top sales people in the Transportation & Logistics industry is picking up significantly, this per Transportation recruiter James Tolan of the Transportation & Logistics Practice of Sanford Rose Associates Executive Search. “We have seen a significant increase from our clients to engage us to find top sales talent in this industry in just the last 3 months. On average we are getting between 1 -2 new engagements per week. These are coming from pure transportation companies as well as both asset based and non asset based 3PL’s” said Tolan. “When you compare that to the almost non-existent demand for quality operations executives, it is clear that the emphasis is on the sales leadership side.” he said.

According to Tolan and other industry leaders, there has been a spike in active recruiting across the board when it comes to high volume sales executives. “It used to be that the executive teams were happy if their sales groups met the annual targets. Now, with the monetary crunch across the industry, they have realized that by bringing on new talent that they can stretch their targets and profits. The problem that we see with this is that some companies may be a little short sighted and start making non-strategic dismissals of what are, for all intents and purposes, good sales people.”, per Tolan. “The amount of active recruiting at conferences and industry forums has increased dramatically. According to a recent survey, 3 out of 5 industry sales executives at the director level or above has engaged in face to face interviews with a competitor at a conference in the past 12 months. That’s a lot of activity”.

“The passive talent pool for sales people is out there, but it takes a lot of effort to convince a top performer to take a look at a new opportunity. What we are finding is that if we can at least engage the candidates in conversations with potential employers, the employers are willing to sweeten the pot enough to entice top talent.” said Tolan.
