Label Remains Loyal To 2 LIVE CREW And Their Legacy of Music

(PSI NORTH-SOUTH PARTNERS, INC—FRENCH MONTANA (Bad Boy/Interscope), the newest hip hop sensation on the music scene is currently occupying several of Billboard Magazine’s National (including R&B/Hip Hop Songs) Charts with “Pop That" featuring Rick Ross, Drake & Lil’ Wayne. The ‘cool’ thing about this new single is that it contains a sample of Luther Campbell’s “I Wanna Rock” (Doo Doo Brown) as the “hook” of “Pop That”. “The I Wanna Rock” song is from Luke’s best- selling album, I GOT SH—T ON MY MIND.

Lil’ Joe Records, Inc. (LJR) based in Miami has managed to stay relevant in today’s music arena by granting sample licenses to contemporary music artists, film scores, soundtracks, commercials, video games, television shows and other media more than any other independent label in the last decade. Joe Weinberger, President of the label, owns a vast catalog of music material from THE 2 LIVE CREW, LUTHER CAMPBELL, 69 BOYZ, 95 SOUTH and POISON CLAN. 2 Live Crew staple hits such as, “Me So Horny”, “Hoochie Mama” “Banned In The USA”, “Move Somethin”, “C'mon Babe”, “2 Live Party”, "We Want Some P-ssy" and “Pop That C**chie” have surfaced in popular films as FRIDAY, PROJECT X, AMERICAN REUNION, THE SITTER, MY BEST FRIEND’S GIRL, DISTURBIA, background music in NBC’s former TV Drama, MEDIUM and the popular daytime TV soap opera, GENERAL HOSPITAL . “Tootsie Roll” by the label’s 69 Boyz has been one of the songs that contestants showcased their dance talents on FOX-TV’s SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE. Before MC French Montana sampled one of Luke’s best-selling hits, “I Wanna Rock”, the song was used in THE PLAYER'S CLUB, HBO’s ENTOURAGE and REAL SEX TV series.

Another key component to the success and longevity of Lil' Joe Records,Inc. is loyalty. Weinberger has stayed loyal to The 2 Live Crew and them to him. The groups' label, Nu Focuz is distributed via Lil’ Joe Records and as the group continues to tour here in the states and internationally, LJR handles the administrative aspects. This continued working relationship makes for success.

After being one of the recipients of VH1's HIP HOP HONORS, The 2LC has been actively looking for acts to sign to their label. They realize that their tenacity and longevity in the business makes them more prepared than most to be label owners. It is important to remember that The 2LC was the only group to legally stand-up to censorship. They appeared before the Supreme Court of the United States and won. Without that win the music industry would sound a lot different than it does today.

Fresh Kid Ice and Brother Marquis have been mentoring artists for years and now they are looking forward to directing their label for a new generation of music lovers. The 2LC is known for their booty-bass, party music but they are not looking to sign replicas of themselves. "We want quality artists, who want to work." says Fresh Kid Ice. The owners of Nu Focuz know how much work the music industry demands and do not want any act not willing to put in the effort. "We have a lot we can teach these cats, if they are willing to listen.' Brother Marquis says.
Joe Weinberger, goes on to say “It is the goal of Lil Joe Records to offer clients access to the vast opportunities in the industry. The distribution arm of Lil' Joe is constantly seeking out the best new opportunities for online sales and signs new service deals regularly to expand the reach of music and video to more fans around the world.” LJR is one of the few independent labels which has direct deals with APPLE, AMAZON, RHAPSODY and others.
