Inspiring New Collection Benefits Worldwide Children’s Charity “Right To Play”

“SOMB began from a place of true generosity and a desire to give back,” said Founder Will Bennett.

Los Angeles based fashion company, SOMB, (SHIRT OFF MY BACK) launches its second collection entitled “From Cali With Love,” featuring specially designed t-shirts, hoodies, tank tops, and accessories. By purchasing SOMB wear, customers will support the charity, Right To Play, which uses the power of sport and play to improve the lives of children in some of the most disadvantaged areas of the world. The 2012/2013 line is available online at http://www.somb.com, with exclusive additional pieces to launch in the new year.

“SOMB began from a place of true generosity and a desire to give back,” said Founder Will Bennett. “We initially directly marketed these clothes to our friends and family. We had no idea our line would sell out three times, and garner so much public and celebrity support. This new collection, From Cali With Love, builds upon that foundation and takes it a step further through the incredible charity Right To Play. We have some amazing designs from local LA artists, and are thrilled to share them with the world in the hope to inspire others to give back.”

SOMB’s latest collection features several inspiring designs which connect California lifestyle to world issues and cultural discovery. The designs include: “Electric Africa” which features a guitar in a classic rock music poster motif; “If,” inspired by Rudyard Kipling’s famous poem; “Gun Shoots Love,” based on popular LA street art in a plea for peace, “Liberation Beats,” which draws on iconic images from the struggle against Apartheid; “Born Free” drawn from the words in Article One of the Declaration of Human Rights, and “Signature SOMB,” which features brand specific logo-ing, and a call to action. There is also a special design entitled “From A Child’s Eyes,” which is based on a photo taken in Zimbabwe during one of SOMB’s uniform drops. All designs in this collection were made in Los Angeles by local artists, DJ Indebele and Assal Deshmeh, who collaborated with SOMB’s Founders to bring their own artistic vision into the brand’s vibrant imagery and positive messaging.

SOMB was founded by Will Bennett, James Williams, Anders Bard, Chris Norqual and Anson Carter—five friends who formed a business around a one-to-one model which provided school uniforms to children in Africa for every article of clothing sold in the States. The initial line sold-out three times over—outfitting children in nearly 50 schools. The new collection takes SOMB’s mission a step further by supporting the global organization Right To Play, which recently had a strong presence in London with many of its Athlete Ambassadors medaling in the 2012 Summer Olympics.
