RUTHLESS follows an ex-con who was recently released from prison and settles in a small town in Louisiana. He begins to torment and exact revenge on the locals who impacted his past. “Of all the scripts I've written, this is the closest to the 'down and dirty' types of films I loved growing up,” states Cooper Layne, who also wrote THE FOG and THE CORE. “It is a mix of gritty Clint Eastwood and Steve McQueen characters, living in a Tennessee Williams universe.”
Phedon Papamichael, who has been the Director of Photography of such iconic and award-winning films including THE DESCENDANTS, IDES OF MARCH, 3:10 TO YUMA, and WALK THE LINE, is attached to direct. “This is the kind of material that actors and directors dream about. I am very excited for the opportunity to direct this film.”
The film is funded by private foreign investors, and will be taking advantage of the Louisiana tax incentives.
