The IRS Has Changed the Due Date for the Form 2290

The IRS recently announced that it will shut down their E-Filing system for the Form 2290 at 1:00pm EST August 31, 2012 for maintenance over the Labor Day Holiday Weekend. In the meantime, taxpayers can avoid filing at the last minute by E-Filing the IRS Form 2290 through the IRS Authorized E-File provider: ExpressTruckTax.

According to a letter that was sent out by the IRS earlier this month, the E-filing Due Date for the IRS Form 2290 will be August 31, 2012 at 1:00pm EST. Typically, this is due at midnight on the evening of August 31st. The reason for this deadline is that the IRS will be performing maintenance on their servers during the Labor Day weekend. The E-Filing System will resume on September 4th, but by then it will be past the deadline for the Form 2290.

Any truck driver, owner operator, trucking company, or anyone else owning a heavy vehicle that will need to file the Form 2290 is strongly urged to get it done before the deadline. This filing season is typically very busy as the deadline gets closer. Because of this increase in traffic, the IRS servers can become backed up and the process becomes much slower in the last few days preceding the deadline. It is much more efficient to E-File this form through in the weeks preceding the August 31st deadline.

This tax must be filed by anyone owning a vehicle weighing at least 55,000 pounds using the IRS Form 2290 on an annual basis. This means that every heavy vehicle must be filed for during the months of July and August. Individuals and businesses with 25 or more vehicles are required by the IRS to E-File the return rather than paper filing.

Although filing this annual tax could be a burdensome process, ExpressTruckTax has done everything to make it simple. Whether it’s a large fleet or a single vehicle, anyone can use ExpressTruckTax for their filing needs and enjoy such perks as:

  • Bulk Upload

Companies with more than 25 trucks are required by the IRS to e-file Form 2290. Instead of entering each truck one by one, entire fleets can be uploaded using a spreadsheet.

  • Quick Credits

While filing Form 2290, the system can identify credits and help taxpayers quickly and easily file Form 8849, so that they get their money back from the IRS faster. An IRS Form 8849 is automatically generated when tax credits exceed the amount of tax due.

  • Stamped Schedule 1

The tax system is so fast, a Stamped Schedule 1 from the IRS can be received in a matter of minutes.
