Part of the show’s appeal, and overall originality is its depiction of Jesus in a light that doesn’t represent any one philosophical figure in particular. He instead represents all of Humanity in its essence.
New York, NY (PRWEB) August 20, 2012
Direct from Colombia, the critically acclaimed musical sensation The Most Amazing Story Ever Sung (La más grande historia jamás cantada) makes its New York premiere with four spell-binding performances September 21-23, 2012. Under the direction of Rob Barron and the artistic production of the renowned musical theater company Misi Producciones, this family-friendly spectacle spans the lesser-known years in Jesus Christ’s life. Combining dazzling choreography, original upbeat rhythms, and an energetic cast, a joyful and human image of Jesus emerges as the story of his life between childhood and early adulthood surfaces. The Most Amazing Story Ever Sung, a not-to-be-missed spectacular event, will play at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Frederick P. Rose Hall (Broadway at 60th Street, New York, NY) and will be performed in Spanish with English supertitles.
The Most Amazing Story Ever Sung is penned by Arturo Tovar, with music and lyrics by María Isabel Murillo. It is sung entirely with foundations in original Latin rhythms combined with jazz, rock, and gospel and a chorus of children and adult assemble. This performance is based on an investigation that includes the Evangelical canons, the apocryphal canons, the material from the Dead Sea, as well as the manuscripts of Nag Hammadi.
The Narrator is played by the well-known Mexican tenor Miguel Ángel Ramírez; Jesus, during his adult life, is played by actor and singer Felipe Salazar; Mary is played by fine arts performer and singer Juliana Reyes; the male devil is played by both dancer/composer Jaime Ortiz and actor/dancer Juan Camilo Castillo, while pop singer Isa Mosquera plays their counterpart as the female devil. A total of 85 dancers, singers and actors, including 35 young performers ages 7 through 18 have more than 600 costumes designed by Colombian artisans, sculptors and artists while performing on a beautiful crafted set that is enhanced by bold and contemporary lighting— everything that creates an epic and magic show that unfolds the richness of Colombian talent.
María Isabel Murillo Samper, director of Misi Producciones, music composer and co-author of The Most Amazing Story Ever Sung, states: “Part of the show’s appeal, and overall originality is it’s depiction of Jesus in a light that doesn’t represent any one philosophical figure in particular. He instead represents all of Humanity in its essence.”

MARÍA ISABEL MURILLO (Misi) – Musical Director – Co-Author
The history of musical theater in Colombia has much to do with María Isabel (Misi) Murillo. After receiving her degree in music education from the National University for Education, Misi dedicated herself to music composition. In 1984, she established MISI PRODUCTIONS, which today is the most revered and recognized musical theater company in Colombia. Misi Productions is dedicated to the molding of outstanding artists and the production of original and universal musicals.
As the company’s driving force, Misi is in charge of the musical composition for original plays, as well as the musical direction, specifically responsible for the vocal components. This Colombian composer’s repertoire includes work on over 20 original plays and approximately 4,000 songs.
María Isabel is also a promoter for Proscenio, an impressive Cultural Center designed by the English firm Foster & Partners. Proscenio promises to be one of the most important architectural icons of Latin America when they open their doors in 2015. In 1998 Misi was awarded by the Ministry of Education with the “Gerardo Arellano” award at the Cultural Merit.
ROB BARRON – Art Director and Choreographer
Born in Los Angeles, Rob Barron was discovered by Lucille Ball at an early age. Since then, he has directed and choreographed shows in the United States and South America and worked with artists like Sammy Davis Jr., Andy Williams, Ann- Margaret, Petula Clark, The Lennon Sisters, Gretchen Wyler and in plays such as: Kismet, Of the Thee I Sing, Annie, Sugar, Cabaret, West Side Story, Oliver! Gaitán, El Hombre a quien amé (The Man Whom I Loved), and The Most Amazing Story Ever Sung (La más grande historia jamás cantada) among others.
In 1985, Mr. Barron began working with the Misi Producciones theater company where he has participated in the production of more than 15 musicals, both from the original and universal repertoire. “The stage production of The Most Amazing Story Ever Sung was a roller coaster of emotions for me. Happiness, sadness, jubilee, wonder, just to name a few. To see the joy on these young actors’ faces; to see the anticipation and anxiety in their eyes before they say their lines was one of the greatest motivations I have to give 100 percent so the show could be just right.”
