Florida (PRWEB) August 20, 2012
Florida DUI defense attorney AnneMarie Rizzo of the law firm Finebloom, Haenel & Higgins recently persuaded the State Attorney’s office to reduce DUI charges against her client (a Canadian citizen) to reckless driving.
According to court documents, the driver was stopped by a Charlotte County Sheriff’s deputy for failing to maintain a single lane. The deputy noted these signs of impairment: slurred speech, an odor of alcohol, and bloodshot, watery eyes. The deputy requested that the driver perform field sobriety tests, and the report states that she did poorly. At this point, the driver was arrested for DUI and transported to jail, where she refused to take a breath test.
The defendant hired Finebloom, Haenel & Higgins for representation, and DUI defense attorney AnneMarie Rizzo got to work immediately on the case. The defendant is a citizen of Canada, so there was a heightened sensitivity in this case due to Canadian laws and how they relate to DUI charges in the United States. After several conversations with the State Attorney’s office, Attorney Rizzo was able to convince the prosecutor to reduce the DUI charges to reckless driving, based upon the strengths of the defense and the weaknesses in the State’s case.
