96 mph or cutting a football field in 14 minutes? Which is the World's Fastest Lawn Mower? - Bruce Kaufman, Mr. Mow It All.

What is the “World’s Fastest Lawn Mower?” Is it the Dixie Chopper Jet Mower, with a 150 horsepower Chinook military jet engine made famous in the 1993 episode of Home Improvement? Or is it the 104+ Octane Boost mower built by Gold Eagle’s Engine Answerman Bobby Cleveland that set the World Land Speed Record For A Lawn Mower of 96.529 mph at the Bonneville Salt Flats in 2010? Or are they both the world’s fastest?

Race fans will get the chance to see both mowers at the 20th Anniversary STA-BIL Keeps Gas Fresh Finals National Lawn Mower Racing Championships, Sept. 1-2 at the Delaware County Fairgrounds in Delaware, Ohio, presented by the U.S. Lawn Mower Racing Association (USLMRA), the nation’s oldest and largest national lawn mower sanctioning body. Both mowers will also be on display the week preceding the event at the USLMRA National Lawn Mower Racing Hall of Fame and Museum at Miller Lawn & Power Equipment in Marion, Ohio.

The Dixie Chopper Jet Mower, built in 1991 by Dixie Chopper founder Art Evans, was the Official Pace Mower of the first STA-BIL Nationals Championships 1992-1995 and has toured the country for 20 years as the “World’s Fastest Lawn Mower,” able to mow a football field in 14.2 minutes. Made famous by Tim Allen and Bob Vila in a 1993 episode of the TV sitcom Home Improvement, the Dixie Chopper Jet Mower has helped the Coatesville, Indiana-based company become one of America’s leading lawn mower manufacturers.

Cleveland’s 104+ Octane Boost mower is a custom-built Snapper that first set the World Land Speed Record on a lawn mower at the Bonneville Salt Flats at 81.792 mph in 2006 and reclaimed the record with a 96.529 mph run in 2010. The mower is currently crisscrossing country as part of Gold Eagle’s Engine Answerman national tour.

“They are both the World’s Fastest Lawn Mower,” said USLMRA Founder & President Bruce Kaufman, “Mr. Mow It All”. “Since 1980, Dixie Chopper has produced the world’s fastest lawn mower for cutting grass. Since 1992, the USLMRA has sanctioned the world’s fastest racing mowers, including the Bonneville Slat Flats mower. One mower cuts grass and the other just goes fast!”

“We are thrilled to be a part of the 20th anniversary celebration of the STA-BIL National Lawn Mower Racing Championships, said Dixie Chopper Marketing Manager Mark Meyers. “Anytime lawnmowers and speed are put together, it’s only natural for Dixie Chopper to be there!”

The Dixie Chopper Jet Mower will be on display at the USLMRA National Lawn Mower Racing Hall of Fame and Museum at Miller Lawn & Power Equipment, 1299 Harding Highway East State Road 309, Marion, Ohio, Wednesday and Thursday, August 29-30 and will then join Gold Eagle’s Salt Flats Mower for display Friday, August 31 – Sunday, September 2 at the Delaware County Fairgrounds, 236 Pennsylvania Ave., Delaware, OH.

The 20th Anniversary STA-BIL Nationals Weekend includes the STA-BIL Keeps Gas Fresh Finals, the culminating event of the STA-BIL Lawn & Garden Mower Racing Series, the U.S. Open National Championship and the annual National Racer Awards Banquet and Lawn Mower Racing Hall of Fame Induction Ceremonies. 2012 Hall of Fame inductees include Gold Eagle Co. makers of STA-BIL®, America’s leading fuel stabilizer who created the USLMRA along with the USLMRA’s Kaufman.

About Dixie Chopper
In 1980 Art Evans made the first Dixie Chopper. Little did anyone know that he would lead the way to revolutionizing the entire lawn and garden industry. Dixie Choppers are known for their performance, productivity and reliability. Still family owned and operated, near Greencastle, Indiana. Dixie Chopper takes great pride in producing the best mid-mount, zero turning mowers in the industry. “Through the years manufacturing processes and procedures have changed, however, our corporate values have remained constant,” said Dixie Chopper Founder Art Evans. “One driving value we have is to produce a mower that has many years of useable life left after it is paid for. Dixie Chopper may not be the first mower you have ever purchased, but chances are it will be the last. Much thought and consideration goes into the making of the Dixie Chopper. We work hard to get the maximum life from belts, component parts and many other things to extend the life of the Dixie Chopper.” For more information, please visit
