Coinciding with the recent launch of ClassIT® Web Service for the ClassIT® product line, NMFTA is proud to announce the introduction of SCAC Web Service for the Standard Carrier Alpha Code (SCAC) product line. SCAC Web Service is a programmable interface that allows machine-to-machine interaction over the Internet using predefined (programmed) methods, which permits computer systems to talk with each other without user intervention.

SCAC Web Service is built upon NMFTA’s proven high performance search engine technology introduced in the ClassIT® program which offers sub-second search response times and high availability via redundant sites in Chicago, Illinois and Alexandria, Virginia. It is based on the SOAP 1.1 standard using standard XML delivered over HTTPS. This configuration has several benefits to the subscriber. By using SOAP, SCAC Web Service is implementation neutral, allowing it to be used by a wide variety of programming languages and operating systems. By using HTTPS, all the interactions are conducted securely over the Internet via encrypted channels. And by using XML, a neutral data standard, SCAC Web Service can be used with any database product.

Founded in 1956, NMFTA’s mission is to serve as a research and development organization providing the transportation industry with the necessary information through education, research, and publication of specifications, rules, transportation codes and the preparation and dissemination of studies, reports and analyses.
