Blackout App Helps Revelers Retrieve Lost Items, Relive the Night

New iPhone app employs GPS tracking to plot party stops on a map while users are out on the town, letting them retrace their steps the morning after.

Most people who have lived through their 20s have had the experience of being out on the town and discovering the next morning that they left something behind – a jacket that really tied their outfit together or a credit card that they will, invariably, need the next time they go out. The Blackout App, a new iPhone app for intrepid partygoers, is designed to help revelers retrace their steps to retrieve lost items, or simply relive the previous night’s outing.

Using the built-in Tracker function, the app automatically marks a user’s whereabouts in 15-, 30- or 60-minute intervals to keep a record of the locations they visit during the evening. Location information is indicated with pin icons on a map, so users can easily identify their previous stops to fetch items forgotten en route or recount their excursion after the fact.

Users can also relive their wildest junkets or preserve special memories for posterity. The Blackout App gives them the option to easily archive every one of their Tracker sessions and to make these archived sessions password protected. The Archive feature can help anyone whose memory is a little foggy to recall the previous night’s revelries, or to retrace the stops on a notable trip.

The Blackout App is also designed for merrymakers who may get a little too merry with its built-in emergency call function. Before users embark on a nocturnal adventure or begin exploring an unfamiliar city, they can enter the number of a taxi service, a close friend, or 911. If they find they need a ride or help out of a jam, they can simply tap the Assistance button to dial their emergency contact with one touch. This added feature can give users a sense of security they need to really enjoy their outing.

The iPhone application was designed and coded by Dallas-based mobile app developer GWHQ Productions on behalf of George Youngblood, the entrepreneur who came up with the idea.

“The development process with GWHQ Productions couldn't have been better,” says Youngblood. “They helped make my app dream a reality and I couldn't be more pleased with the final product. The communication process was very easy and I was extremely impressed with their ability to get my app to the finish line in such a fast turnaround time. I strongly recommend to anyone who has an app idea to use GWHQ Productions.”

Craig Thompson, CEO of GWHQ Productions, notes, “This was a fun app to design. George did not have much experience in the mobile app space, but he knew his target audience and he had a very precise and exact creative vision. This made the whole design and development process easier and more enjoyable for all of us.”

The Blackout App is compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, and third and fourth generation iPod touch. The app is available in the iTunes store for $0.99; enter the search term “blackoutapp.”
