Bupa members to be provided with cataract surgery at Optical Express clinics

"Optical Express is committed to delivering high quality eye care with clinical excellence and now Bupa members can benefit from exceptional quality of vision, leading to happier and healthier lives.”

Optical Express (http://www.opticalexpress.co.uk) is delighted to announce they have entered into a relationship with international healthcare group Bupa to provide cataract surgery to their members.

Bupa insured patients who require cataract surgery now have the option of undergoing treatment at Optical Express clinics across the country.

Optical Express is one of the largest providers of ophthalmic services in the UK. And from now, Bupa members requiring cataract surgery will have the benefit of seeing a specialist at one of five Optical Express locations across the country.

Dr Natalie-Jane McDonald, Managing Director of Bupa Health and Wellbeing said, “Bupa has been in the business of healthcare for over sixty years and because we have no shareholders, we can invest the money we make into more and better healthcare for our members.

"We know that our customers want convenient, high quality, good value eye care and our new relationship with Optical Express ensures that our members have greater choice and easier access to the treatment and care they need.”

Cataract surgery is one of the most common elective procedures in the UK with around 350,000 procedures being carried out every year. A cataract forms when a person’s lens becomes cloudy, causing vision to deteriorate and if untreated, can lead to blindness.

In the UK, more than half of those aged 65 or over have some form of cataract development as it is an effect of the natural ageing process.

Optical Express already carries out thousands of cataract procedures every year and this new relationship with Bupa provides an opportunity to increase their reputation as a skilled and trusted eye care brand, whilst at the same time delivering high quality customer care and clinical skills to Bupa members.

Chairman and CEO of Optical Express, David Moulsdale said, “I am proud that Bupa has selected Optical Express to deliver cataract surgery to its insured members. Optical Express is committed to delivering high quality eye care with clinical excellence and now Bupa members can benefit from exceptional quality of vision, leading to happier and healthier lives.”

This partnership between Optical Express and Bupa ultimately means Bupa members can arrange a consultation with a specialist to discuss cataract surgery without needing to see their GP first, allowing them to access treatment as quickly as possible and with minimal inconvenience.
