A Key Step for Mobile Ultrasonic Fingerprint Technology

Ultra-Scan Corporation, the global leader in ultrasonic imaging and sensor technology, announces the selection of Intrinsix Corp. of Marlborough, MA as its control electronics commercialization partner for the miniaturization of the sensor control electronics for its new Thin Film Transistor (TFT) fingerprint sensor. The new sensor, which recently received FBI Appendix F certification as the first non-optical four-finger scanner, addresses key performance requirements for military and law enforcement personnel.

The current version of the TFT sensor is undergoing enhancement through miniaturization of the associated control electronics for packaging into a variety of mobile device technologies supporting fingerprint enrollment and authentication. In these final phases of product miniaturization, the entire control electronics package will be reduced to an Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) chip. This chip design will be suitable for use with Ultra-Scan’s planned product line of single-finger, two-finger and four-finger family of scanner products.

“After extensive investigation of available partners within the industry, Ultra-Scan was pleased with the responsiveness and technical capabilities offered by Intrinsix,” said Dr. John K. Schneider, Ultra-Scan President and CTO. “We are excited to welcome them to our development team as we wrap up commercialization of this groundbreaking fingerprint sensor technology.”

Intrinsix has extensive experience, having worked on over 800 semiconductor design projects in a wide variety of applications. “We have a long history of supporting important DoD programs and are pleased to be selected by Ultra-Scan to be part of this exciting product development,” notes Jeff Pollack, Director of Sales for Intrinsix.
