Triatlon Xel-Há

With the beauty of a paradise sculpted by Mother Nature and surrounded by extraordinary multicolor water, the 4th edition of the Xel-Ha Triathlon will take place on Saturday November 17th and Sunday 18th in the Standard and Sprint categories.

This year, the Xel-Ha Triathlon is joining the 2012 celebrations that Experiencias Xcaret is organizing with the main focus on it being an opportunity to redefine the relationship we have with the planet and its inhabitants, by understanding the true meaning of 2012 as a new beginning, a chance to go back and look into our spirits and renew the harmony with everything that surrounds us.

Due to the success of the previous editions, the exuberance of Xel-Ha and the excellent job done by the organizing committee led by Elizabeth Lugo, a brand new category is making its debut this year: “Women Beginners”, with the purpose of supporting and guiding women who have the dream of participating in a Triathlon and want to learn the basics to get started in this sport.

The Standard Triathlon (formerly Olympic) will take place on Saturday November 17th with a prize money purse of over 100,000 pesos for the Elite category, while the Sprint, Children and “Women Beginners” categories will take place on Sunday November 18th. For the Standard and Sprint categories, the prize money purse is 30,000 pesos and the minimum age for participants in the latter is 9.

Categories:
On November 17th: 12 categories by age, 1 Relay and 2 Elite
On November 18th: 3 Children, 1 Women Beginners, 10 Sprint and 1 Relay
There is a limit of 500 participants as much for the Sprint Triathlon as for the Standard (formerly Olympic)

Triathlon as a Green Sport

Xel-Ha’s mission is to be a sustainable tourist recreation company and a model of social responsibility; therefore, for the second year in a row it joins the initiative of the Mexican Triathlon Federation (FMTRI) to promote the Triathlon as a Green Sport, with the aim to raise community awareness about the proper use of resources with a sustainable vision. This year’s actions are:

Reducing the use of printed materials replacing them by increasing the use of electronic means for communication.

Collection of swimming caps to donate them to schools.

Integration of the community (volunteers) in organizing the event and promoting good environmental practices and sport among young people.

Rehabilitation of roads (off-site Triathlon routes), with cleaning and collection of more than 20 tons of waste.

As it happens every year, Xel-Ha will donate 100% of the registration fee to the Sea Turtle
Conservation Program headed by Flora, Fauna y Cultura de México.

This year, inscriptions got filled in record time due to the success of the event in previous years. Xel-Há cordially invites you to be a part of the triathlon as a spectator and celebrate a new beginning with the 2012 events in the Riviera Maya.
