Drastic Increase in Social Media Cybersecurity Attacks Highlights the Need for a Comprehensive Social Media Security Training for IT Professionals

The new and comprehensive social media security training courses from Ultimate Knowledge Institute (UKI) equip information security professionals with the latest knowledge and techniques to combat threats to proprietary organizational information emerging from social networking channels.

“The social media security training courses end with examination that will enable professionals to apply for Social Media Security Certifications.” said Tony Akers, UKI’s co-founder.

The recent high-profile security breaches of social media channels such as LinkedIn, where more than 6 million passwords were compromised, introduce never before seen threats to organizational security. In light of these new attacks, UKI http://www.ultimateknowledge.com, the leader in Information Technology and Information Security training, has launched a series of social media security courses tailored to information security professionals across all industries and sectors.

“As the trusted training provider to the Department of Defense, UKI was requested to design and teach Information Security courses with focus on social media security to enable a more wholesome protection of national interests” said Dr. Scott A. Wells, UKI’s co-founder. “The success of these courses and the skyrocketing demand for cybersecurity professionals trained in social media security led us to modify our curriculum, and we are now excited to offer three social media security courses to the general public.”

This announcement comes at a time when organizations in both the private and public sectors are increasingly dependent on social media to drive their marketing efforts. Many organizations are aware of the risks involved: in a 2012 RIMS Benchmark Survey, 60 percent of risk managers identified social media as both an asset and a liability to their organization. According to the 2011 Barracuda Labs report Social Networking Security & Privacy, 86 percent of respondents fear that employee use of social media networks can endanger company security.

Despite these concerns, employees continue to be encouraged to actively support their organization’s business efforts on social media, often with no security awareness training at all. The Barracuda Labs Social Networking Security & Privacy report also shows that personal social media use is largely allowed by organizations, with 75 and 69 percent of respondents’ workplaces allowing the use of Twitter and Facebook respectively.

As social media use and the corresponding security threats continue to escalate, organizations must prepare their workforce to anticipate potentially devastating security breaches, minimize the impact of attacks, and collect necessary evidence for prosecution. The UKI Social Media Security training courses will train professionals to become experts in those areas, as well as teach them skills necessary to develop social media end-user security training and policies.

The Social Media Security Training courses will begin in September and will be offered in the following locations:
September 17, 2012 - Arlington, VA
September 20, 2012 - San Diego, CA
September 24, 2012 - Columbia, MD
September 27, 2012 - Atlanta, GA
