A slow and sure navigation towards the life of spiritual fulfillment that prepares the ground for transcendence to the kingdom, Erol D. Channer’s My Hope Is Built is an encouraging, kind and patient book. The author has processed many, if not most, things in and out of his existence that might help in building on the foundation of hope which is Jesus Christ.
Love is the primary and most powerful motive force in the building and trust in God, especially in the times when He seems to have gone silent, is the element that will make the humble builder go on nevertheless. The spiritual virtues are the building materials used in the building of a strong morality and steadfast Christian courage in the face of contrary fates that often force the most stalwart of men off the path they had hoped to stay on. Further, they are used to combat man’s base desires arising from a misunderstanding of the physical processes.
Channer’s process takes the temporal into account, as it is the factor that will help in making for a better, worthier, construction. Hope is not built on whimsy but on experience, no matter how mind-numbing or earth-shaking it is. In this way, hope is something that cannot be blown or washed away by the random winds or tides of fate. Surviving the journey takes much planning and care. Knowing the details is incumbent upon every man. By the most stringent measures of discipline and study, the book gives its readers to build up hope in their own ways, and build it piece by piece and build it with strength.

About the Author
Erol Channer serves an Electronics Warfare officer in the Canadian Navy and is actively involved in preparing ships for conflicts, during missions, in the murky waters of the international seaway (He is currently on sick leave). It is a lonely job in which success cannot be easily measured until a conflict is over. Planning is paramount and intelligence information supreme to decision-making to safeguard the lives of Canadian servicemen and women. His career choice is a far cry from his personal life where whatever God is trying to do cannot be figured out or even anticipated. Furthermore, success is measured not because he has avoided a conflict or because he came out neither battered nor bruised but hopeful and of good cheer. This story of his aims to show God’s dealing in his life, that is trying to serve Him, in nearly every capacity within His church, while He is busy trying to turn that life around.
