Castle Park hosts 2012 "Walk to Stop Diabetes"

Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012, the annual “Step Out Walk to Stop Diabetes” will take place at Castle Park. Castle Park partnered with the American Diabetes Association in an effort to provide a family-friendly and fun venue for the walk to take place. The purpose of the walk is to raise $175,000 in support of diabetes research.

Those interested in participating or donating can register as an individual or as a team or donate towards an individual or team at As part of the fundraising process, registering walkers are taken to a donation screen, where they can choose whether or not they would like to donate to the ADA.

The event begins with registration at Castle Park at 8 a.m. on Oct. 13. The 2-mile walk begins at 9:30 a.m. and takes walkers through the amusement park filled with roller coasters, miniature golf and other exciting rides.

In an effort to promote participation, Castle Park has offered free or discounted admissions to qualified participants and volunteers who fundraise $100 or more. So far, the event has over 450 registered participants and has raised over $30,000 for diabetes research. ”Step Out Walk to Stop Diabetes” also features special participants designated as “Red Striders,” these are walkers that have either type 1 or type 2 gestational diabetes. They are given their own webpage to tell their story and other special gifts at the event.
