Over the past decade I’ve represented thousands of people I would have never met if it weren’t for the Internet. I hope to be able to help other plaintiffs’ lawyers experience that.

Mass tort attorney and consumer advocate Michael J. Evans says the Internet and the rapid explosion of social media has revolutionized the way the world works, and it’s time for lawyers to catch up. That’s why he’s launched a new website, AttorneyMarketingOnline.com, said Evans.
"The new attorney marketing website offers tips and services to help plaintiffs' lawyers connect with new clients. The Internet and social networking make it so much simpler and convenient for clients to find good lawyers today. And the lawyers who recognize that and embrace it will find more clients,” said Evans.
“Over the past decade I’ve represented thousands of people I would have never met if it weren’t for the Internet,” said Evans. "I hope to be able to help other plaintiffs’ lawyers experience that.”
Evans cautions, however, that social networking presents unique ethical challenges for attorneys.
“Although lawyers can and should have a presence on social media,” Evans said, “lawyers are subject to ethical rules that don’t apply to retailers and celebrities who use promotional techniques that would violate attorney ethics rules.”
That’s why Evans says he has decided to offer “Managed Social Media Services” for law firms, with an actual lawyer involved to help ensure ethical compliance in the law firm's social media marketing campaign. “I’ve used Facebook Pages and other forms of social media marketing for over two years, but I would be reluctant to hire a newly-minted social media expert with no legal training to manage my law firm’s social media marketing campaign,” said Evans.
Evans offers “Managed Social Media” plans for law firms starting as low as $499 per month. Evans said the AttorneyMarketingOnline.com website also offers other marketing services Evans uses in his own mass tort law practice.
“I have a video production crew,” Evans said. “A few years ago we decided to create a satirical legal video for YouTube. That video got over 12,000 views, helped us connect with a lot of new clients, and was written about in news articles as far away as Australia,” said Evans.
Evans said, “About six months ago I became concerned that some lawyers seemed to be ignoring the technological revolution that’s going on around them. So I posted an article on my blog asking “Are most lawyers Luddites?"” (Luddites resisted the adoption of new technology during the nineteenth century.)”
Evans said, "I was surprised on August 6, 2012, when an article in the American Bar Association Journal said, “Lawyers can't be Luddites, according to changes to the model ethics rules approved Monday by the ABA House of Delegates.”"
"So I guess we've heard the view of the American Bar Association. They don't think lawyers should be Luddites, and I don't either. I think attorneys should embrace new technology, and that's why I've launched the new AttorneyMarketingOnline.com website," Evans said.
“Even if plaintiffs’ lawyers visit the site and decide they don’t need to purchase any services, I believe they will find the free blog posts will give them information that will help them use the Internet to attract new clients, be more effective, make more money, and have more fun,” Evans said.
