August 2012, Dundee: The first Alba Real Ale Festival was held at the Royal Tay Yacht Club (RTYC), Dundee on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th of August.
Over 600 people enjoyed a choice of more than 40 ales from 18 Scottish breweries ranging from small local micro breweries such as MòR Brewing Ltd (morbrewing.co.uk) through to established brewers like the Caledonian Brewing Company, Edinburgh. While taking in fantastic views of the River Tay, the festival attendees enjoyed over 40 different ales, ciders and lagers, locally sourced food and entertainment provided by a variety of local bands.
The event was a sell out success due to support from the members of the RTYC, the local community and the promotional website (http://www.albarealalefestival.org) & advertisements created by web design studio, Carnoustie Creative. Sponsors from across the Tayside area contributed time and expertise to help make the festival a success, a full list of sponsors is available at http://www.albarealalefestival.org/sponsors.
All proceeds will go to help funding safety and training afloat and to support two Dundee-based charities: Keans Children's Fund (keanschildrensfund.com) and The Brae (brae.org.uk), riding for the disabled.
Next year's event is already being planned with August 24th/25th currently set as a provisional date. Further details will appear on the festival website as they are established. Scottish independent breweries that would like to supply their ales and organisations interested in sponsoring next year's festival should get in touch with Steve Flack (e-mail: info(at)albarealalefestival(dot)org).
