Fresh off its European leg, Madonna’s MDNA global tour makes landfall in North America later this month and one particular feature of her act has fans buzzing. After taking up the new sport of slacklining last year as a fun way to stay fit, Madonna shared the stage with a professional slackliner during her Super Bowl XLVI halftime show. At that moment, it was obvious the two were a perfect match and Madonna made slacklining a central feature of her MDNA tour performances. The professional slackliners performing exhilarating flips, tricks and stunts on a 2 in.-wide piece of flexible webbing (the slackline) are making Madonna’s ninth concert tour arguably the most dynamic and exhilarating one yet.
The MDNA tour begins its North American leg on August 28, 2012 in Philadelphia, PA. Gibbon Slacklines, the brand behind the sport’s rapid growth, has been named the Official Slackline Supplier to the tour and three Gibbon athletes are traveling with Madonna to every tour stop. Hayden Nickell, Jan Roose and Carlos Neto of Gibbon have been leaving concertgoers across Europe in awe and will perform with Madonna throughout North America until November 20, when the MDNA tour heads to South America.
For those unfamiliar with the sport, slacklining is the act of balancing along a narrow, flexible piece of webbing which is low to the ground and usually anchored between two trees. Gibbon is the world’s leading slackline manufacturer and is rapidly building the sport with their top-level pro team and by hosting competitions all across the U.S. Gibbon’s easy-to-use equipment makes the sport accessible for anyone, from athletes to families.
