Callers are Swapping Provider Subscription Plans for Prepaid Solutions

The results from this study reveal the fact that OTT providers such as Voxofon offer services that not only match mobile/landline providers, but are also preferable to users who call abroad,” says Voxofon CEO and Founder, Alexey Goloshubin.

Voxofon, a leading OTT voice and messaging provider, today announced the results of an international calling survey that polled callers on their usage of various subscription and prepaid services.

According to the study, the use of major provider subscription plans for international calling declines once users try prepaid solutions such as Skype and Voxofon.

43% of Frequent Subscription Users Abandon Use of Plans

For users who once called abroad with subscription plans from their mobile/landline providers “at least several times a month”, 43% stopped using the plans altogether once they were introduced to easier, prepaid solutions like Skype and Voxofon.

89% of Daily Subscription Users Cut Back

In addition, almost all (89%) of those who claimed they once called abroad with subscription plans from their mobile/landline providers daily decreased their usage once they began using prepaid solutions like Skype and Voxofon.

“The results from this study reveal the fact that OTT providers such as Voxofon offer services that not only match mobile/landline providers, but are also preferable to users who call abroad,” says Voxofon CEO and Founder, Alexey Goloshubin.

Calling Cards Not Preferable as Prepaid Method

The study also addressed the use of calling cards as a prepaid method for international calling. The results were profound, as 68% of users who used calling cards “at least several times a month” stopped using calling cards. In addition, 97% of those who used to use calling cards daily decreased their use of calling cards once they tried OTT services.

“The dramatic decline in the use of calling cards tells us that OTT providers are exceeding expectations for calling card users. Ease-of-use is a factor here, as Voxofon offers direct-dial connections, whereas calling cards require the use of complicated codes and dialing sequences,” stated Goloshubin.
