Without ever feeling a sense of belonging to any group, multicultural author and singer-songwriter Haikaa likened herself to a lost “Bewildered Animal.” In her recently published non-fiction book What is Diversity? Haikaa shares the experiences that led her to conclude she was not a “Bewildered Animal” but rather a “Work of Art.”
In Part I, Haikaa discusses issues ranging from sexuality to health, democracy to ethics, and environment to consumption from the perspective of diversity. “I want to live as my original version and not as an imitation of myself,” says the author.
In Part II, Haikaa describes how she implemented her views on diversity. She shares stories behind her humanitarian effort, “The Work of Art Global Project” where she recorded her song Work of Art in 20 languages with the help of over 40 international collaborators. Languages included not only Romance languages, but also Arabic, Hebrew, Lushootseed, Guarani M Bya (two Native Indian idioms) and more. “In diversity, everyone belongs,” concludes Haikaa.
An Amazon reviewer stated, “Haikaa is a role model because of the way she chooses to live her life. Her motivation is fueled by her fearless spirit for adventure. Haikaa shares her life experience and adds cultural and historical facts that make her stories interestingly educational.”
