With leasing, everything from maintenance to troubleshooting is covered in the agreement.

Leasing equipment for solar energy is a fairly new option for those who do not wish to buy solar equipment, yet would like to reap the benefits of a solar panel system. The Catanzariti Family of Lumberton, N.J., is one such family.

In May 2012, the family of six officially converted their home electricity to solar energy. Real Goods Solar installed 54 Canadian Solar 240W panels on the roof of their 2-story, 3,000-square foot home to accommodate the energy needs of the family.

The installers, all Real Goods Solar employees, were helpful and professional in their work during the process. They stopped to answer questions from the Catanzaritis during the install to ensure their customer service needs were being met.

According to Gerry, a power purchase agreement was the way to go. With financing, the household is projected to save around $75 per month on its electric bills for the first few years. The savings are expected to go up over time. “We didn’t want the burden of ownership. With leasing, everything from maintenance to troubleshooting is covered in the agreement. It sounded so convenient for us and the figures were right, so we went for it.”

The Catanzariti Family is extremely dedicated to alternative energy. Gerry strongly encourages friends and family to realize not only the financial benefits of converting to solar power, but the environmental impact, as well. “We tell everyone we know about solar power and how it’s helping us keep our costs down and decrease our environmental footprint. It’s a win-win.”
