JCC raises over $400,000 for vital social services

[Sid and Bernice Jacobson] started with a strong foundation based on integrity, hard work, and family. Then they took it so much further.

Sid Jacobson Jewish Community Center honored Erik Gershwind at its 27th Annual Golf & Tennis Outing, presented by MSC Industrial Supply Co., on Monday, August 6 at Glen Oaks Club (175 Post Road, Old Westbury, NY 11568). The event raised over $400,000 for the JCC’s vital social services, including day programs for individuals with Alzheimer’s and a summer camp for children with special needs. Erik Gershwind is the grandson of Sid & Bernice Jacobson, for whom the JCC in Roslyn and its Brookville campus Bernice Jacobson Day School & Camp are named.

“It is my privilege to accept tonight’s award,” Gershwind said. “It is even more of a privilege to help carry on my grandparents’ legacy for many years to come.”

Gershwind has been a driving force in the development of Sid Jacobson JCC and the Jewish community for over 20 years. He is the newest member of the JCC’s Board of Directors and sits on the Long Range Planning Committee for Bernice Jacobson Day School & Camp, as well as UJA-Federation of New York’s Long Island New Leadership Committee.

The event featured a sold-out day of golf and men’s and women’s tennis. This year’s also included a table games component for the first time, complete with bridge, canasta and mah jongg.
