The goal behind the Super Lawyers® list is to identify attorneys who are viewed as being above and beyond in their practice areas, particularly those who are well known among their industry peers and who have reached a certain level of achievement in their professions. Palumbo’s addition to the list is a testament of how he takes his personal injury practice to the next level.
Selecting which lawyers who will be included on the list is no simple task. It requires a multiple-phase process of peer nomination (and sometimes identification by the Super Lawyers® research team), as well as evaluation and rating of the nominees by a selected panel of attorneys. The Super Lawyers® research team rates the candidates on a point system in 12 key areas. Once the nominees with the most points for certain categories are identified, research is done to check that the nominees are in good standing with their local licensing authorities. Next, the panelists review and rate the nominees within their own practice areas on a scale of one to ten. The selection is conducted on a state-by-state basis, with just five percent of the total lawyers in each state making it onto the published list, according to the Super Lawyers® website.
Attorneys in the running for the list are judged on various aspects of their professional background. Those include verdicts and settlements they have reached on behalf of clients, honors and awards they have received, special licenses and certifications they hold, pro bono work they have performed and more.
Palumbo has been practicing law for nearly 40 years. He founded Palumbo Wolfe & Palumbo in 2006 with his son, Scott Palumbo, and his close friend, Elliot Wolfe. Before that, he had another law firm called Harris and Palumbo, which he founded in 1981 with the purpose of helping the wrongfully injured. He started his profession after earning his law degree in 1973.
Besides his current Super Lawyers® listing, Palumbo has been named on the Southwest Super Lawyers® list every year since 2008. In 2011 and 2012, he also took the title of “Phoenix Medical Malpractice Lawyer of the Year” by Best Lawyers®. He is certified as a charter specialist in personal injury and wrongful death litigation by the State Bar of Arizona. Palumbo is member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum, a group of trial lawyers in the United States who have won million and multi-million verdicts and settlements. Less than one percent of U.S. lawyers are included in that group, according to the forum’s website. He has also served on multiple State Bar committees and on the Board of Directors for the Arizona Trial Lawyers Association (AZTLA).
