Cityteam Chester’s Annual Backpack Program For 2,000 Kids In Need
The Back to School Backpack program is Back Again!

Cityteam International, a non-profit organization serving low-income families and the homeless throughout the greater Delaware Valley is proud to continue it’s annual Cityteam backpack program, giving all the necessary school supplies for local kids in need.

DATE & TIME:     Saturday, August 25, 10 AM - 1 PM
LOCATION:     Chester City Basketball Courts located at 7th Street and Penn Street, Chester, PA

Cityteam Chester’s annual backpack distribution day not only helps over 2,000 kids who have pre-registered to acquire the school supplies they need to succeed in school this year but also provides a fun summer block party where kids can get to know other kids in their community. This party will include fun carnival games and activities as well as tasty carnival food. It will be the perfect celebration to kick off the school year. The party will be located at the basketball courts on the corner of 7th Street and Penn Street in Chester – 10 AM – 1 PM.

Anna Donahoe, Cityteam’s Family Services Coordinator has been working on this project for months to register children and make sure we have the grade appropriate backpack waiting for them. “This program gives the kids a sense of value. It lets them know that they are worthy enough to receive a backpack and that someone cares about investing in their future at school,” said Donahoe.

Although the Backpack Program has been an annual success, Donahoe stated that, “This year the need was greater, more mothers came in need to register their children but the donations were harder to acquire than previous years. Right now there are 2,000 children registered for our distribution day and we are hoping that more donations come in so we can fill each backpack,” said Donahoe.

The following companies and organizations have donated to make this event possible for the kids and Cityteam appreciates our partners who have invested in these 2,000 children: Wawa, Church of the Good Samaritan, St. Luke’s Greek Orthodox Church, The Law Offices of Stone and Stone, Upland Baptist Church, Target in Malvern Collins Family ShopRite as well as many others.

Because of the smaller amount of donations this year, the event is only open to the children that are pre-registered for this event. However, there is a waiting list available for local children still in need of backpacks. For more information, please call Cityteam and speak to the receptionist 610-872-6865. As for volunteers, please contact Courtney Mckeown at cmckeown@cityteam.org ahead of time. Individuals can still help by making a financial donation at http://cityteam.org/donate/campaigns/backpacks/ .
