A unique collection of poetry and prose that provides poignant insights into universal life experiences—humor, death, grief, loss, resilience, family, love, failure, lessons learned, celebrations, travel, and so much more is in Slices of Life written by Altha F. Manning.
This book captures both the very special moments of life as well as the ordinary. As the author notes, "Life’s events though rhythmic happen randomly and concurrently. At the exact moment someone is dying, another is being born, and others are doing all the things that life presents and allows." These reflections are not meant to be representative of all of life’s experiences, simply parts, hence, slices of life. This collection reflects the author’s interpretations of selected life experiences.
Among the book’s more than 85 selections, the author poses the questions: “What is Living?” and “What is Love?” She proceeds to provide profound responses based on a respect for and love of nature as well as a deep understanding of human emotions. These themes are brilliantly woven throughout the book in all of its selections from spirituality and humor to aging and death as well as a wide array of other life experiences.
Furthermore, this book, a mirror image of one’s personal experiences excites and engages the reader while creatively weaving its poetry and stories into the readers’ hearts and souls. It further inspires readers to reflect on their deepest, most beautiful and profound experiences. The author has masterfully crafted her own vignettes and inspired readers to look into the mirror.
