Not having a plan in place can greatly hinder a company’s ability to have an impact in social media, and can prevent them from generating results.”
ATLANTA, Ga. (PRWEB) August 24, 2012
According to a new survey conducted by Social Media Marketing University, a leading social media training firm, 44 percent of companies still don’t have a formal social media strategy in place. The survey was distributed to more than 85,000 entrepreneurs and business professionals.
“The reality is that most brands know that they need to have a social media presence in order to be competitive in the marketplace, but they still aren’t sure how to navigate the space,” said John Souza, founder of Social Media Marketing University. “Not having a plan in place can greatly hinder a company’s ability to have an impact in social media, and can prevent them from generating results.”
According to Souza, having a formal social media plan in place helps companies to:
- Consistently project an image online that is consistent with their mission and core values
- Create and share content that reflects the needs and interests of their prospects and customers
- Build targeted communities
- Prioritize social media activities that facilitate relationship building and engagement
- Outline specific social media goals to facilitate more accurate measurement of ROI
“As social media spending rises, companies are under increased pressure to demonstrate ROI,” said Souza. “When you have a plan in place, you can measure your activities against the goals that you’ve set. Additionally, if your social media campaign isn’t performing well, then you have the data you need to modify your plan to generate better results. These are best practices that we emphasize in our social media training program.”
Complete results from SMMU’s survey will be available in the 4th quarter of 2012 as part of the training firm’s state of the industry report. The report will provide a detailed overview of social media trends, usage and best practices, as well as insights from social media experts and influencers.
