I realized high school kickers in my own hometown were being overlooked and under coached. The Midwest was lacking the fulltime coaching that athletes needed to truly improve their skill set and bring national awareness to the talent. Dave Brader

According to Dave Brader, a future in professional football was never one his goals; professional baseball, however, was in his sight.
It was at a regional workout for the Atlanta Braves in 1999 when Brader picked up a football someone was throwing and punted it. As luck so has it, a scout for the St. Louis Rams was at the same event with his son. The rest, as they say, is history.
As a three sport athlete in high school Brader had the opportunity to pursue basketball, baseball or football at the collegiate level. David decided to play baseball (1B, OF) and football (TE) at Southwest Missouri State (SMS) University in Springfield, MO.
“A dislocated ankle deterred any plans for me to play as a freshman,” says Brader. “So while I was rehabbing my ankle, I became proficient at punting and decided to focus my attention on that position for the remainder of my college career.”
After a year at SMS, Brader transferred to Lindenwood University where he was able to receive coaching from a former All-American punter. This coaching, and a lot of hard work, would turn into a chance to play pro-football.
In 2005, Brader signed an NFL contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars. However a career ending injury forced him to the sideline in 2006.
But the injury didn’t sideline him from his love of football. After his injury forced him out of the NFL, Brader sought out opportunities to coach football in the St. Louis area.
In his interview with Husted Kicking.com, Brader says he saw an opportunity in what was ‘lacking’ in the coaching of local high-school kickers.
“I realized high school kickers in my own hometown were being overlooked and under coached,” says Brader. “The Midwest was lacking the fulltime coaching that athletes needed to truly improve their skill set and bring national awareness to the talent.”
Brader says he hooked up with Husted Kicking to remedy that. And if parent reviews are any indication, Brader is helping his hometown kickers reach their potential.
Randy Hansen, a parent of a kicker Brader recently coached says, “Dave is very easy to talk to and it shows that he cares about our son Matthew. The benefits of working with him 3 days a week has been great, and the results can clearly be seen.”
Brader has also coached numerous area kickers and punters and athletes from University of Texas, University of Wisconsin, Kansas University, University of Iowa, St. Ambrose College, University of Missouri, Lindenwood University and Missouri State.
