Plane Finder AR was catapulted into the headlines in 2010 on launch sparking a debate on its potentially radical uses. At the time, coverage of North America was patchy owing to technical limitations of the company’s global live virtual radar receiver network.

Today, small development company Pinkfroot have achieved a significant technology breakthrough that enables them to supplement their system with new data. This means that using the iPhone or iPad camera as a viewfinder, the app displays flight number, destination, speed, height and registration number of the aircraft for all commercial scheduled flights in North America.
Operations Director Mark Daniels says, “we’re excited to include the commercial scheduled flight data from North America as it has enabled us to significantly improve our global coverage overnight.”
Plane Finder AR is available for iPhone, iPod and iPad in the Apple App Store.
Pinkfroot also offer Plane Finder apps tracking planes on a Google Map. Find out more via the free web app http://www.planefinder.net
