Washington, DC (PRWEB) August 26, 2012
Faces & Voices of Recovery and The Coalition for Whole Health announced today the availability of a Recovery Wellness Room for delegates, staff and other guests attending the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Florida, from Monday August 27 through Wednesday August 29. Staffed by volunteers from the sponsoring organizations, the Recovery Wellness Room provides an alcohol-free venue for relaxation, peer-support meetings and access to recovery-related materials. The Room, the first of its kind at a Republican National Convention, has broad-based support from sponsors who comprise more than 70 organizations devoted to helping individuals recover from addiction and mental illness.
“The hectic pace, stress and ubiquitous presence of alcohol at a national political convention can pose particular challenges to individuals in recovery,” said Pat Taylor, Executive Director of Faces & Voices of Recovery and a sponsor of the Recovery Wellness Room. “With our co-sponsors, we hope to provide a respite for individuals in recovery – a safe, congenial place for them and their guests to relax, network with others and attend ‘12-step’-type meetings, if they so desire.”
Open from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm for the three days of the convention, the Recovery Wellness Room will offer:
- Daily “12-step”-type meetings at 10:00 am, 12:00 noon and 4:00 pm
- The opportunity to connect with others who are in recovery to create a recovery support network
- Access to recovery resources
- Refreshments in a quiet space.
Location: The Recovery Wellness Room is in The Centre, behind 305 South Hyde Park Avenue on Cedar Street, just across from the Hyde Park Methodist Church. On-site media enquiries will be handled through designated staff at the Recovery Wellness Room to protect the anonymity of those using the Room.
