Las Vegas, Nevada (PRWEB) August 24, 2012
The viral marketplace for those who choose the Vegan persuasion has seen a huge introduction in mobile phone applications in recent months to enhance the health benefits of the Vegan lifestyle. Thanks in part to new technology as well as a growing Vegan segment; especially in the Southwestern United States, new applications are popping up and have recently been featured in reports posted on Health and Wellness portal BeWellBuzz.com.
Vegan apps are small programs which are downloadable via mobile smartphone, tablet, and, of course, computer. Some vegan apps may cost a few bucks while many are available for free. Most Vegan apps provide a specific facility such as recipes for vegetarian meals or a list of vegetarian restaurants worldwide. There are also a large amount of vegetarian apps available for those who choose to live a less structured Vegetarian diet.
The introduction of health-based applications for mobile phones and computers is nothing new. Last year, there were a reported 5820 mobile apps that were focused simply on living a healthy lifestyle and that number is growing each month with the introduction of several segment-focused applications. According to a report published by Brown University in July of 2012, the American Dietetic Association (ADA) states people who choose the Vegetarian dietary lifestyle can be categorized in several different segments.
Those who are classified as Vegans or total vegetarians exclude all animal products in their diets (e.g. meat, poultry, fish, eggs, milk, cheese, and other dairy products). Lactovegetarians exclude meat, poultry, fish, and eggs but include dairy products. Finally, Lacto-ovovegetarians exclude meat, poultry, and fish but include dairy products and eggs. The newest Vegan-based apps are targeted to help each of these segments to not only discover new, better tasting recipes, but also ensure they are getting essential vitamins to live a better health lifestyle.
There has been significant support for a Vegan and Vegetarian diet in recent years. According to the ADA, in a July 2009 report posted in the Journal of the American Dietetic Association stated, "Appropriately planned vegetarian diets, including total vegetarian or vegan diets, are healthful, nutritionally adequate, and may provide health benefits in the prevention and treatment of certain diseases.” The report continued to say that "more people across the United States are beginning to discover the potential health benefits of this dietary lifestlye". This is the purpose of the new Vegan mobile apps.
