One of the challenges that many internet retailers face is updating their shopping carts over time to stay in keeping with industry standards or either lockstep or even ahead of the competition. Issues include complications with older systems, especially as new technologies are introduced and their older shopping carts get left behind. New add-ons like quicker check out, access to product feeds and newer analytics tools become essential to compete. While these older carts may have be functional, many retailers are further forced to navigate through custom systems that were developed by a specific individual and are very difficult esoteric to use or change. Freeware systems or open source (OsCommerce, etc) while effective in past are becoming progressively more antiquated and less capable of competing against other lease based software alternatives.
One of the immediate solutions is migrating these older less functional shopping carts or custom carts to one of these updated systems. However, many new carts lack integration systems that enable such a process to be done quickly or easily. In many cases, site migrations may compromise the integrity of pages already ranked by the search engines or compromise the site traffic and historical SEO, especially for internal landing pages or product pages that may have been cached or indexed for specific product titles.
IForce Ecommerce LLC, a leading California based web incubator firm, has developed an initiative to address these issues, through the production of its ForceCart software - a shopping cart backend it plans to develop at its own cost this year and provide free to the public. The goal of the initiative is to further spurn internet entrepreneurship for individuals either launching a web store for the first time or for legacy based site owners dealing with outdated technology that requires update. The technology will be made available to users January of 2013.

Direct access to various shopping feeds, and automating these systems whenever possible. Loading products quickly and easily. Adding articles to any site, create landing pages, and more. Easy functions to customize your site the way that you want it to minimize or eliminate the need to be a programmer or hire one. Information on how visitors reach ones sites and their behavior while shopping the store. Search Engine friendly technology to maximize organic traffic.
ForceCart will further allow unlimited in-store cash registers, online credit card authorization, issue and redemption of gift certificates or store credits, and generation of gift receipts, the ability to place layaway, hold and special orders, ship from the store or warehouse or dropship.
Alex Prince, the Managing Director of IForce Ecommerce as well as one of the founders of the project, states, “The goal is to create an intuitive backend system for internet entrepreneurs that offer the same capabilities as the more expensive options at no cost. The system would also allow site owners to spend less time coping with the more complicated technical aspects of their site, but more time on the retail management end.” Prince goes on to say “Our system would provide automatic updates to site owners and benchmarking against other market leading shopping carts so that we could provide the same value added services to ForceCart users. The goal would be to automate as much as possible and also provide daily analytic tools that are lucid and easy to understand to and apply to optimizing site performance.”
The goal of the ForceCart initiative is to provide a more “level playing field” for internet retailers at all levels. The technology will provide a single view of the shopper across myriad purchasing channels, and allow users to predict for sales trends and better convert customers. ForceCart will focus on customer loyalty with every interaction in the checkout and ongoing communication with the customer. Data will be organized in one central database providing users with key metrics and effective day to day store management. Prince is adamant that the technology should remain free and available to individuals interested in get involved in the internet landscape for the first time or for those older companies looking to update their sites so that they can actively compete against larger, heavily funded internet companies.
