What's the worst idea ever? A new project by startup marketers Tross Media aims to find out exactly that with their very first The Worst Idea Ever Contest. This contest welcomes bad ideas only, where the absolute worst are rewarded.
The project consists of two contests: a public one and one for only startups. The winner in the public contest wins a new iPad. For the startup contest, the top five worst ideas move into the finals, where the judges will then choose the number one worst idea. The winner in the startup contest wins an animated marketing video worth $10,000, created by the experts at Tross Media and meant to be used for the winner's real startup.
Contestants can submit up to three ideas per day to the public contest; only one idea per contestant can be submitted to the startup contest.
CEO Yaniv Tross says one of his team members came up with the concept after hearing a really bad idea for a startup from a friend. "It's not fair only great ideas get to participate in competitions, be reviewed, and talked about. Bad ideas should get headlines, too".
At the project's site, users can browse and rate bad ideas, suggest new bad ideas, and share ideas to popular social networks. Among the judges panel are GiftsProject’s founder Ron Gura, who sold his good idea to eBay a year ago; Yaniv Feldman, Editor-in-chief for Israel's tech blog Newsgeek; and Tal Marian, Techloft founder.
