Opus-3 Data Center and the Sheraton Dallas provide one of the largest Business Continuity centers in the region along with all-inclusive services.

When disaster strikes, most businesses are unprepared to continue operating from a remote location. In an effort to help businesses maintain daily operations when employees must evacuate due to hurricanes, wildfires, floods or other natural disasters, the Sheraton Dallas Hotel has partnered with the Opus-3 Data Center to provide an all-inclusive, family-friendly atmosphere for seamless business continuity operations and data recovery.

“The Sheraton Dallas is constantly seeking new ways to help our guests remain connected with work and with loved ones while on the road,” said Ray Hammer, general manager of the Sheraton Dallas Hotel. “By blending the hotel’s unprecedented level of technology with our luxurious accommodations and superior level of service, our business continuity program is yet another way we are helping our guests feel right at home.”

The business continuity program offered by the Sheraton Dallas and Opus-3 is one of the few all-inclusive programs in the nation. Business continuity clients receive priority access to a block of guest rooms to ensure employees and their families have a comfortable place to stay and can receive support as they deal with the disruption of their daily lives – a component that is missing from most other programs. In addition to addressing family housing needs, the hotel provides program participants with private meeting space so that even the most confidential transactions may proceed without interruption. While many data centers offer their clients a place to work, the space is often an open cubicle with limited privacy.

Through its affiliation with Opus-3and another fiber route, the hotel offers multiple Gigabit connections that can be linked to any major Internet service provider in the country. This is exponentially more bandwidth than offered by other hotels or convention centers. A company’s private network may be routed to any of the hotel’s meeting rooms via a robust fiber-optic network so program participants may work from the comfort of the hotel as if they were working from their regular offices.

“We wanted to partner with the Sheraton Dallas Hotel to offer a business continuity program because no other hotel in North Texas offers the level of technology that is provided by this property as well as fulfilling other logistical requirements such as housing and food,” said David Herr, chief operating officer for Opus-3 Data Centers. “The hotel has one of the fastest Ethernet fiber-optic networks in North Texas and offers guests an enormous amount of bandwidth. The combination of the Sheraton’s advanced internal network and connectivity to our data center via private fiber allows us to provide immediate private Ethernet connections to business continuity clients when using their private workspace recovery rooms at the hotel. Dallas is the logical destination for companies seeking a safe, secure, dependable location for uninterrupted business continuity operations.”

“We selected the all-inclusive program from the Sheraton Dallas Hotel and Opus-3’s Dallas data center to ensure that our listeners have uninterrupted service,” said Gary Parker, president of waymoreFM.com. “Its location is close enough to Houston to service equipment, yet far enough away to ensure no damage from a hurricane.”

Another feature augmenting the hotel’s business continuity program is the availability of the hotel’s Telepresence Meeting Suite, a next generation meeting room that allows users to have face-to-face meetings from remote locations (locally, nationally or internationally). Life-size, high-definition screens simultaneously broadcast a conference or meeting, making it appear that users are actually in the same room. The Telepresence Meeting Suite is a partnership between the Sheraton Dallas Hotel, Tata Communications and Cisco. It is the only suite by Tata Communications in the entire Southwest United States that is available for public use.

Dallas presents itself as a good solution for companies in search of a safe, remote location during disasters along the Gulf Coast. Located over 200 miles from the coastline, Dallas is removed enough to avoid impact with the storm, but close enough to be easily accessible. In 2005 and 2008, when many fled to Dallas to escape Hurricanes Rita, Katrina and Ike, downtown Dallas never lost power or required the use of emergency generators.

The Sheraton Dallas is ideally located in downtown Dallas, in the heart of the Arts and Financial Districts. The hotel provides immediate access to the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) public light rail line, allowing guests to access sports arenas, shopping, vibrant nightlife activities and other destinations throughout the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex.
