The administrators of the Coast2Coast Rx discount prescription card and San Joaquin County are celebrating two important milestones for the county: the 2nd anniversary of the program and the fact that residents have saved $1,711,891 since adopting the card in August 2010.

Understanding the importance of providing healthcare options to constituents, the San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors approved the partnership with Coast2Coast Rx so that residents have the opportunity to better manage their health by having access to prescriptions that they might not otherwise be able to afford. A notable benefit of the card is that it also serves the community by generating revenue for public programs—$1.25 for each prescription filled.

“The Coast2Coast Rx card allows us to serve the county on many levels—it gives residents access to discounted healthcare options, and the funds generated are put back into the community to serve those in need,” said San Joaquin County Supervisor Carlos Villapudua.

The card can be a significant cost-saver for those without health insurance—and it can be equally as effective for those with insurance who have high deductibles or require a prescription not covered under their current plan. Consumers enjoy savings of 10, 20 and even up to 75 percent on more than 60,000 brand name and generic prescription drugs. In some instances the card can be used to offset the Medicare Part D “donut hole.” The free card is available to everyone with no enrollment and no restrictions on age or health status. Additional benefits include discounts on vision, dental and hearing services, diabetes supplies and veterinary services and pet prescriptions.

The United Way of San Joaquin Obispo County has joined forces with the county and Coast2Coast Rx to provide cards to the people it serves. “Improving the lives of people in our community is our mission; so it was an easy decision to partner with the county and with Coast2Coast Rx, knowing that our consumers will have access to discounted prescriptions and vision, dental and hearing services, and diabetes supplies that many need,” said Andy Prokop, president & CEO of the United Way of San Joaquin County.

Local social service agencies, faith-based and nonprofit organizations and business associations are encouraged to provide the Coast2Coast Rx card to their consumers as a money-saving resource.

“In addition to the valuable support of the County Board of Supervisors, we are forging relationships with community leaders and trusted organizations like the United Way so that we can reach those citizens who need the card the most,” said Chief Marketing Officer Marty Dettelbach of Financial Marketing Concepts, Inc., the company that provides the discount prescription card. “We find that once consumers use the card, they discover how easy it is to use and enjoy the benefits associated with it.”
