The purpose of supply chain management is commonly defined in terms of customer service meeting market demand. A lot of research has been conducted on the need to develop market specific supply chain strategies. In order to accomplish that, there is a requirement to implement collaboration networks and to form collaborative supply chains. Unfortunately, supply chains are usually only defined externally for suppliers, customers and business partners, which is a serious limitation.
In fact, it is completely the wrong starting point for most supply chain managers.
The assumption is that supply chains are integrated across functions and departments using a process orientation. “The harsh reality in supply chains today however, is that organisations are not at all aligned internally”. Based upon the last eleven years’ experience of working in manufacturing SME’s, Assess Improve Measure Ltd have now incorporated Internal Supply Chain Management into the Strategic Realignment Program (SRP) as a standard module.
