Atlantic Surveyor Ship Solves Rusty Water Problem

We had a terrible problem with rust/iron and had tried several types of filters, all to no avail. The system solved the problem instantly."

DiveMasters is a professional marine services company specializing in many types of marine operations. Customers include the U.S. Navy, U.S.Geological Survey, U.S.Coast Guard, N.O.A.A., Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, and many others.

The Atlantic Surveyor ship, owned by DiveMasters, is a versatile ship with extensive experience supporting many types of marine operations including hydro-graphic surveys, dive support, submarine cable repair & installation, scientific research, archeological investigation, obstruction removal and many other marine tasks requiring specialized expertise.

The Atlantic Surveyor holds over 10,000 gallons of potable water, which is loaded at the home port of Point Pleasant Beach, New Jersey from local treated municipal water sources. Although the water is safe, treated municipal water, it often contains high levels of iron. While the iron is not toxic, it can cause problems for pumps, piping and storage tanks on ships, in addition to creating bad tastes and odors, and staining fixtures and equipment requiring clean water to operate.

Clean Water Systems & Stores Inc supplied an automatic Manganese Oxide Iron Filter system to remedy this problem. The iron filter treats all water on the ship and provides clean, iron-free water though out the ship. Instead of expensive filter cartridges, the system uses an advanced electronic backwash control valve to backwash and clean the iron filter automatically.

Unlike some iron filter media that must be changed every few years, the Manganese Oxide NSF certified media lasts for 10 to 15 years on average, saving time and money by lowering maintenance and service costs. The system is fully automatic and requires no routine maintenance.

Captain Kurt Perl of DiveMasters said "I could not be happier with the performance of the unit. We had a terrible problem with rust/iron and had tried several types of filters, all to no avail. The system solved the problem instantly."

Demian Ashley a WQA Certified Water Technician at Clean Water Systems, said "We recommended the Manganese Oxide Iron Filter 7000 for this project due to its long life and low maintenance. They needed an automatic iron filter that afforded high flow rate with low pressure drop, and that is exactly what they installed".

Clean Water Systems & Stores Inc has supplied water treatment systems for ships worldwide including disinfection and filtration systems for over 25 years. In addition to systems for ships, the company specializes in treating well water for numerous water quality problems such as iron, manganese, sediment, and other contaminants. The Clean Water Store website has a large number of articles, diagrams and online calculators available for water treatment applications for industrial and residential applications.
