Aquatherm Industries, manufacturer of solar heaters for swimming pools located in Lakewood, NJ, has received NSF-50 certification for its newest line of solar pool heating panels, the Ultrasun™ Solar Pool Heater. Considered by the ISO 9001:2008-registered company to be the result of 35 years of experience in the design and manufacturing of solar heating systems for swimming pools, Ultrasun™ is dramatically different from any solar pool heating panel in the world.

A culmination in lessons learned over three decades, the cutting-edge technology used throughout the new Ultrasun™ product was awarded three U.S. and International Patents. The vented panel’s greatest differentiating feature lies in the unique connection of headers to riser tubes – a glass-reinforced, insert-molded header design provides unprecedented strength and durability at the connection, improving system performance and lifespan. Inside the header, a permanently embedded “stem-block” gives the solar pool panel precise, direct-metered flow throughout, resulting in maximum heat transfer (even in higher-rate filtration systems).

The National Sanitation Foundation standard 50, which is required by most U.S. states, is a safety, durability, and toxicity standard for products that are used in public or commercial swimming pools, spas and other recreational water facilities like water parks.

Certification includes testing of the following:

  • material safety, corrosion resistance, design and construction,
  • hydrostatic pressure testing at 1.5x the working pressure, design burst pressure testing at 2x the working pressure,
  • 20,000 cycle high/low pressure testing, high temperature burst pressure safety testing.

“The certification of Aquatherm helps assure homeowners and operators at recreational water facilities that their passive solar radiant heaters are free from unacceptable levels of contaminants and perform and continue to perform effectively under the intended use conditions,” said Dave Purkiss, General Manager for NSF International’s Water Treatment and Distribution program.

In 2010, Aquatherm became the only manufacturer of NSF-listed solar pool heating systems when its Ecosun, Solar Industries, Ultra-Swim, Sun-Swim, Sunlite, and Ecolite products passed the strict safety, durability, and toxicity standards set forth by the National Sanitation Foundation.

Ultrasun™ is currently in pre-production and available to a select number of Aquatherm Master Dealers around the country. The product is slated for full production in Spring 2013 and will be available through Aquatherm Regional Distribution Centers.
