The spring courses were so well received that we are pleased to be offering them again this fall.
Blacksburg, VA (PRWEB) August 30, 2012
Packaging research and consulting firm White & Company, LLC (White & Co.) announced today that it will again partner with Virginia Tech’s Center for Packaging and Unit Load Design to offer two newly redesigned systems-based packaging and pallet design short courses in the fall, using White & Co.’s proprietary software Best Load®, a packaging design integration and optimization tool.
This is not the first time that Best Load® is being utilized in the Center’s continuing education courses for packaging industry and procurement professionals. Integrated into the courses this spring, the use of the Best Load® software was found to be extremely beneficial by providing an interactive design component that enhances the participants’ understanding of systems-based unit load design.
“The software demonstrates the impact of the interactions between pallet, packaging and material-handling devices, the key to systems-based design,” says Dr. Marshall White, who led the team in developing the Best Load® software and serves as president of White & Co. “The spring courses were so well received that we are pleased to be offering them again this fall.”
Both courses are taught over a two-day weekend and are intended for packaging, pallet procurement, and logistics professionals as well as suppliers. Dr. White, who is also Professor Emeritus at Virginia Tech, and Dr Laszlo Horvath, director of the Virginia Tech Center for Packaging and Unit Load Design, will be the instructors for both courses.
“Attendees will have the opportunity to gain ‘hands-on’ experience with systems-based design and unit load optimization, using the software for custom design and unit load simulation activities that develop skills in diagnosing material handling issues and optimization opportunities,” says White. According to White, the courses will also provide opportunities to learn how to reduce pallet, packaging, and supply chain operating costs.
The first course, "How To Reduce Shipping Costs", will focus participants on principles of unit load design and include a unit load material handling audit. Students will use Best Load® to design packages and stringer pallets while learning about the interactions between material handling equipment, packaging, and pallets. Diagnosing and solving material handling problems will also be covered using the Best Load® software. The short course will be September 25-27 on the Virginia Tech campus in Blacksburg, Va.
The second course, "Pallet Design In The 21st Century", is a fresh redesign of the Center’s most popular short course for pallet industry professionals. Participants will learn the effects of pallet design and selection on material handling costs and the fundamentals of new and remanufactured stringer class pallet design, designing block and stringer class pallets using Best Load®. The short course will be November 7-8 in Blacksburg, Va.
